Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, August 23

TINTAGEL will seal an immediate return to Division Two East on Saturday if they see off Boconnoc despite an eight-wicket defeat at Menheniot-Looe which gave the hosts the title.

The Knights chose to bat at Fourgates and racked up 265-6.

Jordan Burnard provided the glue with 35 from 99 balls, but it was Matt Jolliffe (58 off 67), Ryan Pooley (68 off 42) and Sam Abbott (32 off 30) that provided the acceleration.

But Menheniot powered to victory in just 38.5 overs led by 84 not out from Matt James, that after Aussie Findlay Farrell made 75.

Launceston and Callington Thirds had their relegations confirmed.

Launceston were in the last chance saloon but were comfortably beaten by 97 runs.

Shane Davey (4-35) and Finlay Worth (3-42) shared seven wickets as Grampound Road Seconds racked up 266-9, before the home side were dismissed for 169 with only Dan Tilley (41) and James Dawe (36) making much impression.

Callington are also down after losing their local derby at Saltash by 69 runs.

Chris Bennett (1-20 off 9) was the pick of the visiting attack while Blaze Eigenmann (3-55) and Harvey Poad (3-42) shared six wickets as the promotion-chasing Ashes racked up 233 all out.

Cally had a chance at 122-4 with Ollie Bennett (43) and Mohamed Durrani-Zubair (21) at the crease, but they slipped to 164 all out.

Tintagel know that if they lose to visiting Boconnoc then either Grampound or Saltash can go up.

South Petherwin’s inconsistent form continued as they lost by 130 runs at Boconnoc.

The spin trio of Jacob Masters (3-35), Adrian Clements (2-33) and James Cawsey (2-57) shared seven wickets in the home side’s 195-8, but that was more than enough as mid-table Petherwin were bundled out for just 65.
