Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, June 14

LEADERS Tintagel saw their advantage reduced to a point as they saw their clash at fellow promotion-hopefuls Grampound Road Seconds called off following heavy overnight and morning rain.

The Knights, who also saw the previous week’s trip to Saltash washed out, saw their lead reduced as Menheniot-Looe thrashed Boconnoc by seven wickets, while Ladock are just six further back after they saw off Saltash by the same margin.

Launceston remain rooted to the bottom as they were thrashed by fellow strugglers Roche Seconds at Lawhitton.

The game was reduced to 30 overs and after losing a crucial toss, the hosts found themselves 48-5 with only Darren Jenkin (15) reaching double figures.

Dan Tilley (35) and Phil Spry (19) then dug in for a stand of 56, but once they were separated, only Ethan Green (21) got going as they were dismissed for 143.

Josh Murray-Dustan dismissed Shaun Hicks for nought, but Laurence Burr’s six-filled 70 won the game for the visitors who saw Neil Trudgeon 35 not out as they eased home by eight wickets with 30 balls remaining.

South Petherwin continued their good recent form as they thrashed visiting Callington Thirds by 164 runs.

Play got underway half an hour late, but the home side’s batsmen came good despite a fine early spell from Martin Hunn (3-30 off 8).

He took out the openers plus Andrew Brenton for 32, but the returning Sam Pengelly (68), Paul Clements (59no) and Adam Creasey (40) ensured the home side raced along to 244-7 from their 40 overs.

Clements then took the new ball with Kevin Horrell (4-36), and by the time they had finished the game was all but up despite Ollie Bennett’s 32.

Adrian Clements (4-2 off 3.2) then span out the lower order as the end came at 80.
