Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three and Four East round-up – Saturday, June 27

SOUTH Petherwin were comfortably beaten by visiting Grampound Road Seconds in Division Three, a result which saw them drop to second in the table.

The first half went relatively well for Petherwin as the Roadies were kept to 196-9 as all five bowlers – Kevin Horrell (2-35), Adam Creasey (2-52), Adrian Clements (3-44), Jacob Masters (2-26) and Billy Martin (0-31) chipped in.

However, that total was more than enough, particularly as Petherwin slipped to 16-4.

The hard-hitting duo of Creasey and Darren Jenkin looked to change the momentum, however once Creasey went for 18, only Jenkin with a quickfire 34 got going in their 102 all out.

Saltash’s eight-wicket success over Duloe means they lead the standings by three points.

St Minver were beaten at strugglers Boconnoc by 17 runs as home batsman John Niblett made a superb 117 not out in a total of 236-8.

Antony Ash (4-53) and South African Alex Scullard (3-53) shared seven wickets although Rob Hawken gave little away in his 1-24 from nine overs.

On the chase, St Minver never could quite keep up with the rate to be dismissed for 219 with an over remaining.

Skipper Ben Hawken made 71 and Scullard 32, but the innings was given a real chance by Ross Keast’s quickfire 46 and Rob Hawken’s 20. But once they were separated by Gary Spencer, it proved too much.

In Division Four East, Werrington Thirds were thrashed by nine wickets at their Wadebridge counterparts.

Only skipper Ian Worsnip (18) and Tyler May (12) reached double figures in their 73 all out.

Callington Thirds were dismissed for 178 at home to St Stephen with Josh Lancashire making exactly half of the total, before the Clay Country side eased home by six wickets.

Promotion-chasing Launceston’s clash with Newquay Seconds was rearranged for later in the season.
