Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East round-up – Saturday, June 27

JORDAN Duke made a superb 52 not out as Werrington Seconds produced a remarkable comeback at Crooklets to keep Bude bottom of the table.

Coming to the crease at number nine with the visitors seven down for just 105 in pursuit of 216, he was soon joined by Darren Webber who made 32 himself before departing with 42 required.

Last man Ian Searle was dropped first ball off David Sillifant, and the duo made the hosts pay with a fine stand that ended with Searle (20no) striking successive fours to the delight of the away players and supporters.

Earlier, Bude – missing Dylan Grinker and Richard Dymond – made a steady 215-6.

Opener Matt Williams made 20 and Brandon Forsyth 17, but it was a steady third-wicket partnership of 54 between Wayne Adams (46) and captain Warren Rumble (36) that set the platform.

Both departed in the same Sam Smeeth (2-32) over, however David Sillifant (38no off 31) and Andrew De Rosa (33 off 32) went at better than a run a ball in a total of 215-6.

Opening bowlers Matt Williams (2-24 off 9) and Matthew Mansbridge then took four early wickets including the big ones of Toby Ward and Tom Lyle, but Werrington regrouped via Dan Howgill (47) and skipper Jason Seldon (22), the latter who had bowled superbly for 2-22 off his nine.

Once they were separated (81-5), wickets fell in a heap, including two to De Rosa (2-36), but Duke, who faced just 35 balls, had other ideas with help from Webber and Searle.

Webber’s 27-ball knock ended when he was bowled by Sillifant on the sweep, but after Searle’s moment of fortune, the only scare came when Duke was put down by a tough chance at point off Mansbridge with 15 required.

Ryan Pooley smashed 136 not out from just 107 balls as Tintagel cruised past previous league leaders St Blazey at Butts Field.

The visitors were going well at 112-1 with Josh Carne (54) and South African Henro Bouwer (42) set, but debutant off-spinner Zahaan Hussain (3-43), Owen Barnes (2-37) and Ryan Pooley (3-26) wrestled back the initiative. In the end it needed 40 not out from number 10 Angus Harley to get Blazey to 225 all out.

With skipper Matt Jolliffe absent due to illness, Tintagel sent out Australians Jack Minehan and Leo Agacy.

Both went early, but while Pooley smacked 18 fours and eight sixes, he received fine support from Jordan Burnard whose 40 provided the glue.

Once Burnard went, Sam Abbott added 26 himself as the winning runs came in the 40th over.

Holsworthy were missing several key players for their trip to St Austell Seconds who racked up a hefty 301-5, which included 2-47 from Bilal Darbar.

The depleted Trees were then shot out for just 94 as nobody made more than Rob Mitchell’s 16 from number three.

Saturdays results mean Tintagel sit just 11 points off new leaders Wadebridge Seconds, while Bude are 13 points adrift of Werrington who moved out of the bottom two at the expense of Holsworthy who collected just four at St Austell.

This weekend sees Bude host Holsworthy in a crunch clash for both, while Werrington host mid-table Menheniot-Looe and Tintagel entertain Lanhydrock (all 1pm).
