LAUNCESTON Seconds were edged out by visiting Newquay Thirds on Saturday by 10 runs.
Ryan Vanstone (2-51) and William Mansfield (2-33) shared four wickets in the visitors’ 225-7, and although Phil Spry (75) and Toby Theobald (47) were going well at 139-2, they slowed to 215-7.
Holsworthy Seconds are 51 points from safety after a 134-run reversal by Pencarrow.
Skipper Ryan Smith claimed 3-23 in the visitors’ 223-5, but the Trees were rolled out for just 89 despite Brodi Wonnacott’s 26.
South Petherwin Seconds’ bowlers had a day to forget at their St Minver counterparts who chased down 310 to win by seven wickets.
Petherwin skipper Richard Watson made 176 not out from 106 balls in their 309-7 as Jim Hall (3-85) and Stuart Brill (2-41) shared five wickets.
However, home captain Neil Kent (124) and Charlie Edwards added 211, before Sam Hocking’s rapid 32 not out (11 balls) got the job done.
Elsewhere, Tintagel Seconds were hammered at second-placed Saltash Seconds.
Freddie Knowles (3-75) was the only wicket taker in the Ashes’ 256-3, before the Knights mustered just 108 in response, including 31 from Joe Parsons.
Bude Seconds are up to fifth after a comfortable 67-run success at Grampound Road Thirds.
Jack Miles (36) and Mike Tame (34) helped the Seasiders reach 182-9, while Mike Taylor later took 4-18.
Werrington Fourths eased to a five-wicket win at St Neot Seconds.
Youngsters Ralph Hodgson (3-34) and Henry Paynter (3-24) shared six wickets in the home side’s 197 all out before Ian Wills’ unbeaten 54 secured victory alongside Paynter (27no).
In Division Seven East, Launceston Thirds lost by 138 runs at Lanhydrock Thirds. Bradley Rutter took 3-35 in the home side’s 254-6, before Andrew Townsend (33) and Simon Wilton (28) helped them reach 116 all out.
