Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three and Four East round-up – Saturday, July 4
SOUTH Petherwin maintained the pressure on leaders Saltash by easing to a seven-wicket success over visiting St Minver at Kennards House.
Petherwin lost to Grampound Road Seconds a week earlier, but an excellent bowling performance – initially led by veteran Paul Clements (1-21 off 9) – and complemented by spinners Jacob Masters (2-24) and Adrian Clements restricted the visitors to just 182 all out.
Skipper Ben Hawken made 52 at the top of the order, but was one of four wickets to Clements (4-29) who also bowled South African Alex Scullard for 22.
Petherwin openers Taylor Gerry (37) and Billy Martin put on 72, and although Martin went for 49 with 44 required, Andrew Brenton (49no off 26) and Adam Creasey (22no off 8) smashed the winning runs in no time.
In Division Four East, previously unbeaten Launceston fell to a three-wicket defeat at Liskeard.
The visitors soon lost key man Dan Tilley for a single, however, skipper Finlay Worth (78no) laid the platform alongside James Dawe (20) which allowed Kevin Worth (72 off 52 balls, 10 fours, two sixes) to take the score to 223-5 from their 45 overs.
Liskeard got off to a flyer via Brijesh Desai (61), and although Ethan Green dismissed him and Ryan Christophers (2-36) struck twice, opener Andrew Ware – who went on to make 84 not out – found support from Ben Powell (43).
Finlay Worth (0-21), Green (1-19) and David Cox (2-37) kept things tight, but Liskeard reached their target with eight balls to spare.
Werrington Thirds were comfortably beaten by visiting St Stephen.
The visitors knocked up 252-5, and although Werrington reached 60-0 via brothers Tyler (27) and Marley May (35), nobody else bar skipper Ian Worsnip (36) contributed much in their 180 all out.
