BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST
Bude v Holsworthy
BUDE are within 13 points of safety after a comfortable 59-run success over neighbours Holsworthy who dropped to the foot of the table as a result.
The Seasiders had thrown away a commanding position at home to Werrington Seconds the week before as they sought a first win of the campaign, and slipped to 54-4 after choosing to bat, which included two for Guy Beagley (2-62).
David Sillifant (16) and Andrew De Rosa counter-attacked despite some elements of luck, and once Sillifant departed to the wily Graham Wild (2-29 off 9), De Rosa was joined by Harry Dymond who made a patient 23.
De Rosa went lbw to Wild for 45, but the innings was taken on by Derek Piper’s excellent 37 not out, plus useful contributions from Richard Dymond (13) and Matthew Mansbridge (20no) as they reached 226-8. Dan Lucas (2-38) and Bilal Darbar (2-42) shared four wickets.
Holsworthy were missing key opener Jack Greening due to a broken toe, plus skipper Ryan Walter, and despite Beagley (19) looking dangerous early on, they stuttered to 40-3 in the 11th over with wickets for Matt Williams (1-21 off 9), Matthew Mansbridge (1-22 off 5) and the miserly De Rosa (1-19 off 9), who bowled Brendan Harris for 20.
The dangerous Sam Stacey was dropped twice before eventually holing out off Richard Dymond’s first over, and when Darbar skewed a catch to Matt Whitefield off Dymond (2-37), it was 72-5 in the 24th over.
Stand-in skipper Aiden Gerry (48) found some support from Ben Hutchings, and although the latter gradually got into his stride for 29, his departure to Sillifant (3-39) saw the visitors slow to 167-9 despite an entertaining 20 from Gavin Cockwill.
Bude visit champions St Blazey on Saturday, while Holsworthy host leaders Wadebridge Seconds (both 1pm).
