LAUNCESTON Town Council is considering its options for the future of one of the town’s central car parks.

On May 18 and 19, the town’s multi-storey car park was closed as the town council announced that works were being undertaken in order to repair some of the spots in need of love.

While this work was welcomed by residents, there is still some concern surrounding the safety of the site. Some drivers have even reported a liquid dripping onto their vehicles which can cause damage to the paintwork.

For some, these concerns are enough for them to avoid parking in the facility, instead opting for alternative options within the town.

However, parking elsewhere isn’t the only thing residents have been exploring, there have been a variety of calls from locals about what should be done to the facility; while some hope that repairs would be enough to solve the issue, others are even calling for the facility to be completely demolished.

Despite varying opinions, Launceston Town Council has confirmed this week that it has contracted a company to review the structure.

Chris Drake, clerk at Launceston Town Council said: “We recently had some resurfacing works carried out as some areas in the car park were in a poor state of repair. We have also contracted a company to review the structure and to advise of any works that may need to be done in the future.”

However, the clerk has stated that the council has not yet been informed as to whether any work is required.

He continued: “At the time of writing, we have not received any further details in regards to what works may need to be considered.”
