Two Holsworthy youth groups have proved the value of working together. Close links were forged between the North Tamar Fencing Club and Holsworthy Army Cadet Force when fencing instructors Philip and Susan Westley became cadet instructors.
Fencing was introduced at detachment level as an additional interest and has been taken up at company level with recruits from across North Devon receiving training at weekend camps.
Recently, three cadets were invited to join in with the club's annual competition with cadet Mia Doherty winning a silver medal for second place.
Holsworthy ACF entered a relay team into this year's Ruby Run, raising £200 designated for local good causes.
Half was paid into company funds being raised for the North Devon Autistic Forum and the detachment chose the fencing club as recipients for the remainder.
