A LOCAL care home is set to celebrate national volunteers week by thanking its supporters.
Volunteers at Kernow House in Launceston who visit the home regularly will be given a special thank you during Volunteers Week.
Every volunteer will be presented with a thank you card and a small gift to show how much everyone at Kernow House appreciates the time they give.
A spokesperson from the home said: “The home is so lucky to have a large group of volunteers, who give their time and skills freely and help provide the best life enrichment for people who live at Kernow House.
“Victoria Brendon is a young lady who volunteers in all departments of the home, sometimes helping the housekeeping team and always making sure she spends plenty of time chatting to residents. Carol Godfrey joins us at our popular pop-up cafes and at special events to provide social care and good company. Andrea Richards comes to exercise with residents and does everything from playing table tennis to boxing while chatting and singing. Sue Body from Therapy Dogs Nationwide brings her show cocker spaniel Mitzi for animal therapy every week. Sheila Burt, Revd. Mary Williamson, Bill Roberts, Sarah, Sue and Richard Uglow support us and take it in turns with delivering spiritual care for residents by delivering Hymn Singing, prayers, blessings and words of comfort every Thursday afternoon.
“We would like to thank everyone during national volunteers week for what you do for us because you make such a difference.”
Leigh Stanley, general manager at Kernow House added: “Our care home is like a family and our volunteers are a part of that family, loved and valued by everyone. It takes a special kind of person to give up so much of their time to help others and we are lucky to have such fantastic volunteers.”
