STUDENTS from Launceston have received an insight into the working world within the justice sector, as they were encouraged to ‘dream big’ regarding their future.
Thanks to a recent visit, pupils at Launceston College have been given a glance into what life is like while working for His Majesty’s Probation and Prison Services.
Sally Adams, who works in His Majesty’s Probation and Prison Services, spoke to Year 7 and Year 10 students at the school about her career, giving them a fascinating insight into the responsibilities, skills, and experiences involved in the sector.
It comes as part of the school’s ‘I Love My Job’ series in which students explore some of the career opportunities which are available to them after leaving school.
During her visit and presentation to students, Sally delved into what a typical day in her role as a civil servant looks like. She highlighted the wide range of skills a role within her industry requires, from communication and problem-solving to resilience and teamwork.
A spokesperson from Launceston College said: “The visit is part of Launceston College’s ongoing commitment to helping students explore career options and “dream big” about their futures. The series regularly invites professionals from a variety of sectors to share their experiences, giving students the chance to ask questions and learn directly from people working in the field.”
Principal at Launceston College, Mr Matthew Thompson has praised the visit, arguing that the scheme allows students to see the world of opportunities available to them and ‘helping them to dream big’
He said: “I always love seeing our students energised and asking thoughtful questions. Visits like Sally’s show them the real-world skills and opportunities out there, helping them to dream big and think about their futures with confidence.”
