THE mayor of Launceston has reflected on a positive year for her town in the lead up to Christmas.
She said: “It is a privilege to be the mayor of Launceston and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, 2026. However I would like to take a little time to remember our loved ones who will not be with us at this festive time and perhaps light a candle in their memory.
“I have been extremely busy since becoming mayor and with my consort, husband Peter, we have attended many mayor choosing ceremonies, met many new friends throughout Cornwall and we have all become known as "The Chain Gang".
“To meet the High Sheriff of Cornwall at The Duchy Gardens , Lostwithiel was an honour. St Piran's Day in March, saw the town square full with children from all the primary schools in the town and from surrounding villages and the dancing and singing certainly took centre stage. I was privileged to lay the poppy wreath on Remembrance Day and to witness all the wonderful organisations parading and filling the square, alongside the large public support.
“I have had the pleasure to visit many places, including one of the local residential homes and finding myself assisting in a 'Ready Steady Cook' competition to make pasties! I have also attended the League of Friends summer fete, the presentation of trophies to Southgate United Football Clubs, Launceston Agricultural Show and presented flowers to a lady on her 100th birthday, as well as attending various luncheons involving local organisations and many more. Thank you all very much.
“To finish, I need to mention the wonderful town full of festive lights and the lovely Christmas tree in the square alongside Geoffrey, the gingerbread man and of course we mustn't forget our new additions, the Father Christmases in Madford Lane. Excellent!”
