STUDENTS in Launceston have been getting stuck in outdoors as they opened their brand new ‘café’.
Launceston Primary School has unveiled a brand new on site facility, providing fresh beverages this term, a mud cafe.
Every beverage is a verifiable herbal infusion, made from the finest ethical and sustainable ingredients, including stones, sticks, leaves and mud from the school’s playing field. The young baristas are now hard at work during break and lunch time every day perfecting their craft. They are already expertly blending leaf based concoctions to a tea.
The café could not have been completed without the help of Mr Salisbury at Bradfords Building Supplies and Mr Rosevear who kindly constructed the new play area.
A spokesperson for the school said: “At Launceston Primary School pupils are encouraged to engage in purposeful play, which staff view as an essential life skill to equip children with. Immersive learning and play are at the heart of the school’s curriculum and ethos.
“Pupils spend lots of time playing outside to deepen their connection to the natural world.”

The school believes that regular opportunities for learning outdoors result in improved confidence, risk-taking opportunities, improved health, wellness and the development of environmental awareness.
Kate Eyre, principal at Launceston Primary School said: “Our new mud café has been a fantastic addition to our outdoor learning space, it’s already become one of the most popular spots in school. The children’s creativity and teamwork have been incredible to see, as they design their own ‘menus’, mix their mud-based ‘drinks’, and serve their friends.
“Purposeful play like this helps develop imagination, communication, and problem-solving skills that last a lifetime. At Launceston Primary, we believe that learning should be joyful, hands-on, and rooted in a love of the natural world.”
