THE Holsworthy and District Lions were once again out in force on Sunday, January 8, taking down the Christmas trees they had put up just a few short weeks ago.

This year, as they have done for the previous few years, the Lions also offered a Christmas tree recycling service in Holsworthy Square.

Anybody was welcome to come along with their old Christmas trees and have them shredded.

There was no charge for this, but any donation, however large or small, was welcome and would be used to help fund the various other charitable work undertaken by the Lions throughout the course of the year — for example, the senior citizens’ lunch when the Lions will be inviting 120 people for a free three-course meal in the Memorial Hall on January 21.

The shredding service was provided by Leo McDonnell, of Southwest Tree Care, who gave up his time free of charge to help out the Lions.

Also, out in the drizzle on Sunday morning was Holsworthy mayor Jon Hutchings and various members of the town council who were taking down the Christmas lights and decorations that had made the town look so pretty over the festive period.

Club spokesman Robin Mitchell expressed thanks to Southwest Tree Care, and to the mayor and other members of the town council for all their hard work over the last few weeks.
