AN up and coming star in the show circuit, who has been showing her prized goats ‘since day dot’ won big at the weekend’s Devon County Show.

The 16-year-old, Jorja Snook-Bevis from Noteworthy Farm in Holsworthy, performed incredibly well.

Working with her mother, Julieann, Jorja diligently cares for her own goats and it certainly paid off, with her British Angora goat ‘Isaac’ coming away with a Special Award for ‘Best male, six years or over’.

She said: “We have British Angora goats, and Isaac our buck has done well today getting a Special — he has a really lovely temperament.

“I am just so happy to be back showing again.”

There is little about raising Angora goats Jorja doesn’t know and her enthusiasm for the show is infectious.

Jorja said: “They are particularly bred for their fibre rather than their meat and we have a few products with us here today that my mother and other family members come together to spin — they can make just about anything with the fibres and produce so many amazing products.

“It is the fleece that is really interesting, it is one of the strongest and naturally fire retardant natural materials.”

Jorja lives and breathes farming and hoped to encourage more people into showing as she says it is a wonderful ‘way of life’.

She said: “I’ve been going to shows since I was born, since day dot really, for the last 16 years. It is just a way of life for us. Everyone is trying to support each other and we can do that by attending our local shows so they can continue.

“I would definitely encourage more people into farming and into the community as everyone helps each other and it’s such a nice way of life.”

Looking to the future, Jorja hopes to complete a Level 3 diploma and purchase her own herd of cattle with the prospect of one day showing them too — watch this space.
