Community market supports Love Your Neighbour charity
ALL the money raised at the Community Market in Launceston is donated to local charities and good causes, with a recent donation being made to Love Your Neighbour Launceston.
The market organisers were delighted to present a cheque for £200 to Love Your Neighbour.
Inspired by the “Love Your Neighbour” charity started by Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London, Love Your Neighbour Launceston is a not for profit initiative developed to support families and individuals in need by giving them free bags of food.
It was initially funded by grants as a response to the COVID crisis and is now supported by donations and working in partnership with Fareshare; and the Cornwall Gleaning Network who supply fresh vegetables from local farms.
The initiative is based at Central Methodist Church where they have the use of a store and a room to sort and pack the food into bags. It is run by volunteers from Churches Together in Launceston and teams work together to sort and pack food. Others help to fetch food from the Plymouth warehouse and others take away the surplus packaging. The food is then delivered to needy families to help them through these difficult times.
Also, as part of the role they are able to signpost people to other organisations who may be able to offer help, for example Citizens Advice, Launceston Money Advice and the Foodbank.
The Community Market meets on Friday morning in the Hall at Central Methodist, offering a wide range of local crafts and produce, and would welcome any suggestions for other local good causes to support.
