A SIGN to be placed in the town has been given to Holsworthy Twinning Association, from residents of Aunay-Sur-Odon.
The consensus of members of Holsworthy’s twinning group is that the sign should be place somewhere central to the town. Suggestions to have it placed outside the Tourist Information shop or Memorial Hall have been made – with some saying it could be attached to the flagpole.
However, the twinners must gain the permission of Torridge District Council before any plans to place the sign can go ahead.
The town council’s finance and general purposes committee last week discussed the matter and has shown support for the twinning association’s plans to place the sign in the town, however they informed the group that if they wish the sign to be placed on any town council building or outside the Memorial Hall, then permission will have to be sought from Torridge District Council.
Holsworthy’s town council clerk Vanessa Saunders said: “The town council is very supportive of the twinning association wish for the Aunay sign to be placed in a prominent place in Holsworthy. However as the town council does not own any of the buildings concerned permission would need to be sought from the owners of the buildings concerned.”
Torridge District Council owns the town council offices, the council chambers or Market Hall in the Square and the Memorial Hall and car park.
The town clerk suggested the group’s next course of action should be to contact Sarah Pennington from the property team at Torridge District Council and inform her that although the town council has shown support for the placement of the sign it is seeking the permission of the district council.
