MEMBERS of the Launceston Road Runners have started the new year off strong, with plenty of results from on – and off-road races.

New Year's Day saw several members of the club taking part in the ever-popular Brown Willy run, a seven-mile run from Jamaica Inn to the top of Cornwall's highest tor and back again. Hard frost meant conditions were much more favourable underfoot this year, as mud up to your thighs and lost shoes are normally an accepted hazard! No results from this one: as a fun run there is no official timekeeping.

On Saturday, January 3, Joe Thomson completed the Walter Raleigh Round half marathon at Budleigh Salterton with a time of one hour, 45 minutes and 38 seconds, finishing 12th overall.

At the Endurance Life Half Marathon on January 10, along the rugged coastal terrain around Polzeath, David and Eddie Thomson finished with times of 2:19:34 and 2:21:21 respectively. Meanwhile, seven days later saw Gabby Lyons secure third in her age category with a time of 30:47 at the first Tavy 5K of the year.

The club's first big group outing of the year was at the Trevithick 12k in Camborne on Sunday, January 18, which marks the beginning of the 2026 Cornish Grand Prix race series.

With a strong club showing of 15 runners, results were as follows: Joe Thomson – 47:39; Kevin Marshall – 52:55; Andy Corbett – 53:00; Lewis Halliday – 57:02; Michaela Barron – 58:37; Jenny Mills – 1:00:51; Matt Pickard – 1:01:10; Martin Hynes – 1:01:22; Stuart Armstrong – 1:05:56; Ian Grimes – 1:08:10; Linda Pickard – 1:09:38; Angela Brinicombe – 1:11:16; Emma James – 1:14:01; Reece Heywood – 1:23:04; Vin Marshall – 1:24:32.

Jenny (F75-79) and Martin (M70-74) both came first in their age categories, Angela came second in hers (F65-69), and Kevin (M55-59) and Michaela (F35-39) took third in theirs. Great running and fantastic results all who took part.
