LAUNCESTON Road Runners had a busy month, including Joe Thomson running the Saints & Smugglers 100-mile challenge on Saturday, September 27.
Starting at 6am in Looe, he covered the challenging Cornish terrain with 18,000 feet of elevation, crossing Bodmin Moor and encompassing both the North and South coast of Cornwall in an incredible time of 26 hours, 11 minutes and 27 seconds, which was enough for fifth overall and third in his age.

Sunday, September 14 saw five members take part in the Truro Half Marathon, which was held in challenging conditions in both the city centre and country lanes.
Jon Kappes (1:35:31 – third, M55-59), David Thomson (1:38:18 – first, M60-64) and Kevin Marshall (1:42:56 – third, M60-64) all finished in the top three in their age categories, while Matthew Pickard (1:56:30) and Steve Jenkins (2:05:42) also got around.

Eight members of the club travelled to Scotland to tackle the Loch Ness Marathon on Sunday, September 28.
The race follows a spectacular undulating point-to-point route, taking in the Highland scenery, before ending in Inverness.
David Thomson was the first Launceston runner to finish in a time of 3:35:28 followed by Kevin Marshall (3:41:24), Peter James (4:00:02), Peter McAughey (4:00:57), Katie Fowler (4:12:27), Emma James (4:38:16), Paul Heywood (4:49:38) and Lavinia Marshall 5:24:27.
On the same day, five members ran the Marazion 10K with Jon Kappes leading the way in a time of 41:06 for second in the M55-59 category. Matt Pickard (50:02), Ian Grimes (57:42), Linda Pickard (58:00) and Dave Pickard (1:07:25) also finished.

Elsewhere, Jeanette Johnson tackled the Bristol to Bath Trail Marathon, running it in 4:23:58 to finish first in her age, Lorraine Hawkins completed the Windsor Half Marathon in 2:25:16, and Sarah Ross ran the Newton Abbot Ladies 10K in 1:07:59.
