North Devon and Cornwall League final at Launceston — Monday, September 17

SIXTY-FIVE golfers enjoyed an excellent day of golf at Launceston when the club hosted the final of the NDCL.

This was a great advert for Launceston’s course and to follow, there was the usual carvery at the clubhouse.

The league comprises of two divisions of five golf clubs each. Each club enters a team of seven players, and the five best scores from each club count for the result.

To decide the winning club at the end of the season, the top teams in each division play each other for the final. The two clubs competing for the title were Portmore (near Barnstaple) and Libbaton (near High Bickington). Portmore eventually won by two shots.

Home match v Torquay — Wednesday, September 19

Launceston 5

Torquay 3

THE Cornish side had lost 7-1 when they headed to Devon in April meaning they had to do the same in the return leg to pull off a draw.

Bernie Werren won nearest the pin prize on the par three 15th hole, beating captain Rodney Duke.
