THE rain returned with a vengeance late last week which wiped out a number of fixtures involving Post area clubs.

Although Launceston and Camelford got their games on, fellow South West Peninsula League clubs Callington Town and Holsworthy weren’t as fortunate as their respective away games at Wadebridge Town and Torrington were called off due to waterlogged pitches.

In the St Piran League East, Launceston Reserves and Callington Town Reserves were unable to play, as was the case for Morwenstow’s mammoth trip to Mousehole Reserves in the Kernow Stone League Cup.

Bude Town put themselves back on 20 points (following a three point deduction for fielding an ineligible player) as they beat strugglers Lanreath 2-0 at Broadclose Park, thanks to goals from Wes Pugh and Ruan Tape.

East Cornwall Premier League North Petherwin and St Minver were also called off, but St Teath made the long trip down to the coast to tackle Gerrans and St Mawes United and lost 4-1.

Games involving Post area clubs in the North Devon and Macron Devon and Exeter leagues never got started but there was despair for Holsworthy Reserves and Shebbear United as they were both beaten in the last 16 of the Firewatch Devon Senior Cup.

Holsworthy lost 3-1 on the 3G pitch at their Exwick Villa counterparts with Jake Cartwright grabbing a consolation, while ten-man Shebbear were well beaten by four goals to nil at Axminster-based Millwey Rise.

Although games involving Gunnislake, Boscastle Reserves and Delabole United were postponed in the Cornwall Airport Newquay Duchy League, there were plenty of fixtures that went ahead across the four divisions and in the two cup competitions.
