SIX sides advanced in the first-round of the Launceston and District Pool League’s Handicap Cup last Tuesday night (January 20).
The 12 sides across both divisions were drawn at random with the following results: Newmarket ‘Shots On’ 2-6 Launceston Arms A; Newmarket D 1-9 Colin Park A; Colin Park B 9-5 Wilsey Squirrels; Old Orchard 7-3 Newmarket A; Manor 5-6 Archers Arms B; Archers Arms A 10-11 White Hart.
In the league, which has now been split into the ‘Prem’ and ‘First Division’ following the first phase where every team played each other once, the majority of sides have played twice before the third round of fixtures tomorrow night
Defending champions Colin Park B have a three-point cushion at the top of the six-team Prem after two outings. They have dropped just nine frames out of a possible 32 and have an extra four points for their two victories.
Newmarket A and Launceston Arms A are close by on 25 and 22 respectively.
Newmarket ‘Shots On’ are fourth on 13, three ahead of both Archers Arms A and Wilsey Squirrels.
In the First Division, three sides cannot be separated after two matches.
Newmarket D and Old Orchard played out an 8-8 draw as well as winning their other fixture 9-7, while White Hart are also on the same, just one clear of Manor.
Colin Park A and Archers Arms B lost their first outings 9-7 and 10-6 respectively.
The most individual wins in each division ahead of tomorrow night’s matches are: Prem Division: 1 Daniel Gay (Colin Park B) – 8/8; Joint Second: Karl Crozier (Launceston Arms A) and James Wilson (Newmarket A) – 7/8; Joint Fourth: Lawrence Palmer (Launceston Arms A), Wayne Smith (Colin Park B) and Lee West (Newmarket A) – 6/8; First Division: 1 Tristan Orchard (Old Orchard) – 7/7; Joint Second: Darren Davies (Manor) and Aaron Howard (White Hart) – 5/8; 4 Steve Sweeney (White Hart) – 5/8; 5 Alan Woods (Newmarket D) – 5/7.
