ALTARNUN manager Jimmy Miles has predicted a minimum top-three finish for his players after being accepted into the East Cornwall League at their AGM last week.

The Nuns haven’t lost in the last two Duchy Premier League seasons, although both were abandoned midway through due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, they have a young, enthusiastic side who score goals for fun, showcased by their 7-1 thrashing of Boscastle in the Launceston Cup final on May 31.

Miles believes it’s about time they went up.

He said: “We’re all over the moon and I feel it’s where we belong. The club is going places both on and off the pitch, it’s where we need to be!

“We’ve applied for the last two years and were denied, but we were top of the league, and haven’t lost for over two years.”

Miles is confident that his squad will excel in the league higher.

“We’re going to be playing better teams on better pitches, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes of it all, but I’m expecting us to do well.

“I played a lot of East Cornwall League myself, and the boys we’ve got will be able to take to it quite easily. The aim will be the top three while trying to push for the title. We’ve got a great group of lads and it’s a pleasure to manage them.”

Miles doesn’t anticipate too many arrivals.

He said: “We’ll always welcome good players, but I’m quite happy with the squad I’ve got at the moment. They’re a close-knit group, who play for each other.”

The East Cornwall League gets underway on Saturday, August 7.

Miles said: “We’re looking to start pre-season this week to get the fitness up, and then move onto a few friendlies so we’re ready for the first game.

“We’ve got a couple of friendlies in the pipeline, but are just waiting on a couple of things.”

Miles expects the Nuns to continue to flourish.

He added: “I’m proud of the boys for what they’ve achieved so far, and I’m looking forward to achieving a lot more in the coming seasons!”
