SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST
Dobwalls 1 Launceston 2
LAUNCESTON picked up a crucial three points in their quest to move away from trouble at bottom side Dobwalls on Saturday.
Clarets boss Simon Minett had the luxury of naming a stronger side than in recent weeks which included attackers Alfie Fothergill, Kian Berry and Shae Cardiff.
The hosts had won just twice all season, including a 2-1 victory at Launceston earlier in the season, and went into the game off the back of beating Wendron by the same scoreline last time out.
However, it was the away side that started better on a heavy playing surface.
Fothergill and Cardiff both saw headed efforts narrowly miss the target as Launceston dominated the early stages.
It was no surprise when the Clarets moved in front on 28 miutes as defender Joe Moynan got up highest to nod a left-wing corner.
The energetic Fothergill sent over a cross that caused havoc in the home defence before being deflected home by a Dobwalls defender just before half-time.
Dobwalls pulled one back within two minutes of the restart as a long ball slanted in from the left from Chris Westallsomehow found a way through the Launceston defence.
For the first time, Dobwalls began to pose an attacking threat. The Clarets were forced back and Howie Evans became the busier of the two keepers.
Manager Minett brought on fresh legs in a bid to re-establish midfield control and, despite a few close calls, his improving side safely saw the game out before the start of a run which see them face the current top four in the next six games.
