CHRISTMAS football means local derbies and big crowds for host clubs, and all of the Post area sides in South West Peninsula League Premier West are in action.

Bude Town and Holsworthy are both enjoying solid seasons and meet at Broadclose Park on Boxing Day morning (11am).

The Cornwall versus Devon element to it ensures plenty of good-natured ribbing between the two towns, but due to the weather last year, the two sides met in the league at the end of the season on consecutive Fridays in April. Holsworthy ran out winners on both occasions as they finished seventh compared to the Seasiders’ 14th.

While the Magpies have a new boss in Kevin Squire who has continued the good work started by Ryan Hall, Bude boss Steve Hackett and his assistant Liam Dart have guided Town into the top-half and with potential for that to get better over their final 12 games.

Bobby Hopkinson’s first season in charge at Camelford has gone well with the Camels in the shake-up for a top-four finish, an area of the table he targeted when taking over from the long-serving Reg Hambly.

Hopkinson takes his side down the A39 to Wadebridge Town on Boxing Day (11am), a ground they have already won at this season in the Cornwall Senior Cup.

The Bridgers have stabilised over the last couple of months with Steve Flack now in the hotseat following the early-season departures of Andrew Moon and Brad Richardson, and will hope to finish inside the top-half.

Launceston moved up to fourth bottom following a crucial 2-1 success at Dobwalls on December 13, and Simon Minett will hope his side can continue that momentum on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

They welcome a Callington Town side who are going well in the top five and will look to be the ‘best of the rest’ behind title battlers Liskeard Athletic and Elburton Villa.
