Holsworthy 2 Camelford 0
A week after crashing to a 4-1 defeat at Trefrew Park, Holsworthy gained instant revenge with victory over the Camels at Upcott Field on Saturday.
A first half goal from Jedd Peschke gave Kev Squire’s team the advantage after a dominant 45 minutes and after surviving a Camelford fightback, Brad Ausden’s goal sealed the points for the home side.
This was Camelford’s first defeat in seven games and the first time they have failed to score in 21 matches in all competitions stretching back to September 5 when they lost 1-0 at Callington.
Magpies boss Squire told the club’s website: “It was a very good day for us. We went into the game wanting to do better than last week and we put a plan together after watching the Veo of last week’s game.
“Of course it helped that Camelford were without their top scorer (Ryan Downing) who was suspended, but the players listened to our instructions and messages and produced a good performance.
“If I’m honest, if we had gone in at half-time four or five goals to the good that would have been a fairer reflection of our first half performance.
“We then had to withstand a fightback from Camelford but got the vital second goal to seal the points. I thought we thoroughly deserved the win and I’m very pleased for the players.”
The victory leaves the Magpies in eighth place in the standings with seven games to play remaining.
Next for Holsworthy is a trip to Launceston on Saturday with Squire saying: “We want to finish the season as well as possible. If we apply ourselves right we can take on anybody.”
