SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE WALTER C PARSON LEAGUE CUP (SECOND-ROUND)
Millbrook 1 Launceston 1 (Launceston won 3-2 on penalties)
LAUNCESTON secured a morale-boosting victory as they saw off league rivals Millbrook on penalties to progress to the last 16.
The Clarets were delighted to welcome Denham Guild and Alfie Fothergill back into the matchday squad from Polperro and St Blazey respectively, although both started on the bench.
The Brook moved in front after 11 minutes but the Clarets were back on level terms on the half-hour, thanks to a sharp finish from Kian Berry.
Launceston made a series of positional changes at the break, as well as introducing both newcomers.
The Clarets had shaded the first half but a decent Millbrook side stepped up the intensity after the interval.
There were chances at both ends but neither side could break the deadlock and, with no extra-time in operation, the game went straight to penalties.
The key man proved to be Clarets keeper Howie Evans who stepped up to make three stunning saves, including one twice-taken effort.
Guild was successful from the penalty spot, along with young Gabe Rutter who kept his nerve to score emphatically.
Amongst scenes of great jubilation, it fell to Fothergill to drive home the decisive spot-kick and give the Clarets a boost heading into some key league fixtures.

In amongst the excitement of the shoot-out, it would have been easy to overlook some outstanding individual performances, notably from Joe Moynan who moved into central defence in the second half where he put in a tremendous shift.
All in all, a good day for the Clarets.
