Callington Town 1

St Austell 3

CALLINGTON remain without a win in nine games after losing to managerless St Austell.

Cally found themselves 2-0 down at the break before experienced striker Ryan Lucassi halved the deficit.

However, the fifth-placed Lillywhites secured the points thanks to Tom Chambers.

Camelford 0

Tavistock 9

WITH a whole host of players missing, Camelford were always going to find it hard work against title-chasing Tavistock and so it proved as they suffered their heaviest home defeat at Step Six against the rampant Lambs at Trefrew Park.

The in-form Josh Grant equalled a Premier Division record by scoring six with Tallan Burns, Jack Crago and Luke Brown also getting on the scoresheet.

Cullompton Rangers 5

Launceston 1

A DEPLETED Launceston’s tough season continued on Saturday as they were beaten 5-1 at Cullompton Rangers.

The visitors started brightly and Jack Lee was only inches away from giving them an early lead when his cross-shot beat keeper Adam Seedhouse-Evans but grazed the far post.

Lee and Charlie Hardcastle posed a constant threat down the left but the home defence held firm.Cullompton took a shock lead after 35 minutes when a loose ball was rammed home by the lively Ash Donohue.

The Clarets were knocked out of their stride by the goal and Donohue began to pose a serious threat. He hit the post with Josh Colwill beaten and then dribbled round the Clarets keeper but was unable to find the net.

Cullompton began the second-half very much on the front foot and soon doubled their lead when Danny Baily neatly lobbed Colwill from 15 yards.

Launceston wideman Tallan Mitchell posed a constant threat up front but lacked support and the home team gradually took control.

Substitute Rhys Parsons made it 3-0 with a fine diving header before Donohue added a fourth and Baily scored again to put the home side 5-0 in front.

With injuries making things difficult for the Clarets, they were forced to introduce substitute goalkeeper Tom Watson into an unfamiliar outfield role. Ironically it was Watson who finally made the breakthrough, slotting neatly past Seedhouse-Evans from 15 yards. However Cullompton closed out the game to claim a slightly flattering 5-1 victory.

Launceston welcome Elburton Villa to Pennygillam on Saturday (3pm) as they look to build on their recent goalless draw against the same opponents before clashes with fellow strugglers Callington Town (Good Friday) and Sticker (Easter Monday) over the Easter weekend.

Division One (West)

Liskeard Athletic 2

Holsworthy 0

HOLSWORTHY were left incensed by the decision to disallow Jay Thomas’ free-kick as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at league leaders Liskeard Athletic.

The home side were the better side in the first-half but just had James Lorenz’s fifth minute strike following a counter-attack to show for their efforts, although they did force Ryan Chadwick into a superb one-handed save.

At the other end, Holsworthy probed without threatening but couldn’t produce that moment of magic.

However in the second-half, the Magpies were far from poor following a couple of half-time changes, and dominated the whole half, playing some superb football in the process.

Harry Barrett, Taren Stacey and Olti Arriku all went close before in the 80th minute, Jay Thomas’s left-footed free-kick from 20 yards out went straight into the top corner.

The Liskeard assistant official raised his flag for offside claiming a touch off of a Holsworthy player even though the visitors felt the ball clearly went over the wall and into the top of the net and were understandably incensed when referee Oliver Willcocks disallowed the goal.

Holsworthy continued to push with strikers Brad Birch and Arriku seeing shots saved before with their only foray forward of the half and Holsworthy all forward, the prolific Lorenz added an 88th minute strike on the counter attack.

Magpies manager Liam Dart was left furious with the call to disallow Thomas’ strike, saying: “It was the most ridiculous decision I have ever seen. The young referee had a simple decision to make and he didn’t do it, pressure told on him.”
