LAUNCESTON AND DISTRICT DARTS LEAGUE LATEST
THE Ladies Division Singles was held on Thursday, January 22 at the Newmarket Inn.
The league consists of six teams, while Kay Roberts from B’s & D’s was looking to defend her title.
All matches were played over the best of three legs, including two preliminary round matches as Wanderettes’ Therasa Shillibeer defeated Double Trouble’s Tracey Sanders 2-1.
Roberts got her defence off to a good start by seeing off Ellie Parnell (White Hart Does) 2-0.
The semi-finals saw Shillibeer knock out Roberts in a deciding leg, while Queen Bees’ Diane Barr defeated Enigma’s Sally Bruton by the same scoreline.
Shillibeer’s impressive form continued in the final as she edged out Barr 2-1 to take title.

The following Monday saw the Open Division Doubles played at Launceston Golf Club.
A pair from each of the 11 teams took part with three preliminary round games.
Defending champions Park Warriors (Rob Jane and Mike Drury) were knocked out at the first hurdle by Stumble Inn’s Kevin Adams and Josh Fry, while the other pre-quarter-final ties saw Village Inn’s Dave Taylor and Malcolm Swiggs see off Frog and Bucket’s Jona Parker and Danny Gerry 2-0 and White Horse’s Max Derby and James Taylor winning a deciding leg against Stephen Pesterfield and Andy Karkeek from Harveys Knights.
The quarter-final line-up saw Taylor and Swiggs knock out Fry and Adams 2-1, while Pint and Post’s Fred Philp and Ian Boundy beat Kensey Clowns’ Warren Wrgith and James Doney by the same scoreline.
Derby and Taylor beat Archers Arms’ Ian Freestone and Luke Dunkin without a dropping a leg, as was the case for Westgate’s Peter Sandercock and Kelly Wilkinson in defeating Launceston Golf Club’s Mike Webber and Adrian Wonnacott.
Taylor and Swiggs proved too strong for Derby and Taylor in the first semi-final, although the second contest was a close one as Sandercock and Wilkinson just held their nerve in a decider against Philp and Boundy.
For those still left, it was hoped the final would go to a third leg, and so it proved, however it was Taylor and Swiggs that ensured the trophy headed back to Ashwater.
An update on the league will be provided in next week’s edition.
