SOUTH Petherwin picked up their first win of the season in the Cornwall Women’s Hardball League on Sunday as they saw off Grampound Road by five wickets at Kennards House.
Having won the toss, South Petherwin put the Roadies into bat and bowled them out for 84 in 14.5 overs.
Although the away side arrived with just nine, a fine all-round team performance saw Meg Masters lead the way with 3-15 from her two overs, while Paige Clements (2-15 off 3) and Emma Wynn (2-10 off 2) soon made their mark.
With 30 overs to get their target, the home side took their time, and with 30 extras being sent down, openers Emma Barnes (27 off 56) and Maisie Clements (6) added 37.
Barnes and Alice Mitchell (10) got the home side to within 15 of victory, and although Erin Milsom ensured some late nerves (4-11 off 3), Olivia Jones (4no) and Paige Clements (2no) stayed firm.
South Petherwin also gave debuts to Alice Kodritsch who made five, and Kate Gordon.
In the same division, Werrington got their second victory with a 58-run success over Wadebridge at Ladycross.
Openers Emma Horrell (33 off 45) and Grace Kirby (21 off 24) put on 54, and although they slipped to 101-6, late contributions from Hayley Kirby (19), Zoe Jenkin (17) and Kate Bourn (11no) helped the hosts reach 152-8. Laura Whitbourn (2-11), Abby Clarke (2-12) and Phoebe Lennard (2-22) all took two each.
Wadebridge never threatened that target, ending on 94-6.
Skipper Bryher Walford batted through for 28 not out off 91 balls, while Gracie Parkyn made 19 off 24 from number three.
Five Werrington bowlers – Freya Bailey, Kate Bourn, Imogen Rowe, Zoe Jenkin and Emma Horrell were in the wickets with Bourn claiming 2-11 off her four overs.
Werrington are due to host South Petherwin this Sunday.
