Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East round-up – Saturday, June 21

HOLSWORTHY are now 22 points from safety as third bottom St Minver produced a superb comeback to run out convincing 57-run winners at Menefreda Way.

Lewis Chidley (2-34 off 5) took out Antony Ash and Dean Jeffery early on, but Ben Hawken rebuilt the innings alongside dad, Rob.

Hawken senior (32) was run-out before the returning Jack Greening took out South African Reece Thompson first ball.

Ben Hawken (38) was lbw to Matt Shepherd (2-36) who soon cleaned up Matt Hartnett (99-6), but Ross Keast counter-attacked for 52 from 43 balls (five fours, four sixes) to help the hosts reach 195 all-out. Aussie off-spinner Noah Pigdon took 3-24.

Holsworthy reached 50-0 with Greening (32) set, but Rob Hawken’s off-spin trapped him lbw before he bowled Shepherd first ball.

Opener Aiden Gerry occupied one end for his 53 from 116 balls, but there was pandemonium at the other as Hawken and Jonny Centini (2-25 off 4) went to work. Keast’s superb all-round game continued with 2-37 from his nine, while Lee Pitman weighed in with 2-25.

Bude’s spinners won them the game at home to Werrington Seconds having earlier made 244-9.

Wayne Adams (37) and Warren Rumble (35) took the Seasiders to 109-1 before Sam Smeeth’s (2-45) left-arm spin accounted for both.

Richard Dymond (40) and Andrew De Rosa (17) then provided the platform for David Sillifant (33 off 24) and Brett Hunter (17 off 14) to keep the scoreboard moving despite George Rickard’s 4-58.

Werrington reached 100-1 in the 22nd over with Rob May and Rickard going well, but when Rickard (40) was bowled by a superb delivery from off-spinner Leo McDonnell, Bude turned the screw.

May (53) got a leading edge to point off the brilliant Andrew De Rosa (4-40 off 9) and wickets then fell to leave Werrington six down and requiring 93 off the final 60 balls.

The ever-dangerous Tom Lyle (68 off 68) eventually got some boundaries away, but he was run-out coming back for a second late as the visitors ended on 229-8. Skipper Jason Seldon was 33 not out.

Luckett sit second after winning by 14 runs at fellow promotion-hopefuls Lanhydrock.

Toby May made it five fifty-plus scores in his last six innings in all competitions as his 86 helped the villagers reach 219-8.

Ryan Brown (32) and James Wilkinson (26) chipped in, as did Henry Wilkinson (14no) and Leion Cole (12no) towards the end.

Cole (3-57) then got the key wicket of Amir Khan for just 11 as he and the returning Robert Piper (3-32 shared six wickets.

Mark Southcott went for just 14 from his nine overs as Lanhydrock got to 169-9 before closing on 205-9.

Callington Seconds started well in both innings but were eventually well beaten at their Wadebridge counterparts.

The home side were in all sorts of trouble at 59-5 as after Martin Hunn bowled a miserly opening spell, Ryan Hodge (3-54) and Jim Shorten (2-35) got to work.

But Paul Menhenick’s 72 plus James Cox’s 73 not out from 52 balls propelled the Swans up to 227-7.

Cally reached 104-1 with Nick Parker (47) and Liam Hunn (38) well set, but once they were separated the wheels fell off to be dismissed for 149 as Ross McLachlan (3-28) and Alek Gill (4-27) shared seven wickets.
