BUDE and North Cornwall Cricket Club held their annual presentation night at The Brendon Arms on Saturday, November 15, with over 40 in attendance.
It was a mixed summer for the Crooklets-based outfit as although results on the field were disappointing for the men, huge strides forward were taken elsewhere as the ladies played their first-ever softball match having only started midway through the summer, while plenty of juniors were involved in the All Stars and Dynamos programmes with the aim of entering league sides for 2026.
The men’s first team just survived by the skin of their teeth after a tough second half to the season in Division Two East of the Cornwall Cricket League.

However, they picked up the five points needed from their final day clash with champions St Blazey to survive on a head-to-head with St Minver who would have survived if they had taken another wicket.
The seconds’ hopes of a promotion push from Division Six East never really materialised and finished in mid-table.

At the presentation night, the club said farewell to Australian overseas bowler Brett Hunter, who is leaving the club to join Chard in the West of England Premier League Somerset division after three wicket-laden summers.
However, the biggest applause of the night was saved for outgoing chairman Anthony Greaves.

The veteran wicket-keeper is standing down after over a decade in the job, although he will carry on as chief groundsman, and was given a number of gifts for his service.
He also gave Matthew Mansbridge the Club Member of the Year award for his work in the early season getting the ground ready as he recovered from knee surgery.
The winners of the awards were as follows: First team: Batting – Warren Rumble; Bowling – Brett Hunter; Captain’s Player – David Sillifant; Second Team: Batting – Michael Taylor; Bowling – Mike Taylor; Captain’s Player – Derek Piper; Ladies’ Players’ Player – Lauren Simmonds; Club Catchers Cup – Derek Piper.
