DUNHEVED Bowling Club’s Colin Squire played a total of five games over the two days to win the Group Two Unbadged Singles title earlier this month.
Held over two days starting on May 17, Colin as looking for his second title in this knockout competition having previously won it in 2023.
His first port of call was to head to Liskeard Bowling Club where he came up against fellow Dunheved bowler Graham Davey.
After securing his first win he went on to play Steve Fettner from fellow Launceston club, Kensey Vale.
It was a tight game, and with the winner needing 21 shots, the pressure was on when Fettner was holding the lead at 20-19.
However, Colin drew in to the jack, and also managed to take the second wood, qualifying him for the next round.His third match, and the green final, was against Russell Hanson from Callington.
With a score of 21-14, Colin proved himself unbeatable on the day, and earned his place in the semi finals.
Sunday saw Colin head to Camelford where spectators from various clubs came to watch and cheer on their clubmates.
With the two semi-finals played in the morning, Colin came up against Steve Farnden from Looe, and managed to secure his spot in the decider with a comfortable 22-11 win.
Andy Blackie from Kensey Vale was the other finalist and it proved to be a contest worthy of the occasion as both played well, but Colin found the lines early on and won with a score of 21-17.
The trophy was presented by Group Two chairman Brian Wonnacott from Bude Bowling Club.Colin will now compete in the county finals in September, alongside the other three group winners from Cornwall, to try to earn the title of county champion.
