BUDE Bowling Club completed their 2025 club championships with their finals weekend on September 5 and 6.

The culmination of the event were the finals of both the men’s and ladies championships. Both were nailbiting affairs and were close throughout.

In the ladies, Gill Hodgkinson repeated her success of last year with a hard-fought win over Fran Goldthorp, while the men’s contest was even tighter as Andrew Smeeth and Robin Worden battled to 20-20 with Robin taking the crucial shot to win 21-20 and take the championship for the first time.

The competitions had taken place across the season, culminating in the finals weekend.

The Two Wood Men’s Singles and Mixed Three Wood Singles competitions were both won for a second consecutive season by Steve Hall, while in the ladies’ Two Wood Singles, Fran Goldthorp retained her title.

Dave Heckbert defended his Men’s Handicap crown, beating Steve Hall in the decider.

It was also good to see some of the club’s new bowlers getting a taste of victory with Tim Benson and Steve Greenwood, in their first season, joining Richard March as winners of the Brendon Cup which was contested earlier in the year.

The winners across the different competitions were: Ladies Championship: Gill Hodgkinson; Ladies 100UP: Jenny Horncastle; Ladies Two Wood Singles: Fran Goldthorp; Ladies Pairs: Fran Goldthorp and Jenny Horncastle; Men’s Championship: Robin Worden; Men’s Handicap: Dave Heckbert; Men’s Two Wood Singles: Steve Hall; Men’s Pairs: Dave Heckbert and Robert Wilkins; Brendon Cup: Tim Benson, Steve Greenwood and Richard March; Kirk Cup: Alan Wilson, Paul White, Jonathan McConnell and Bill Dixon; Mixed Three Wood Singles: Steve Hall; Mixed Pairs: Gill Hodgkinson and Mike Claydon; Falcon Cup: Jenny Horncastle and Alan Wilson; Mixed Triples: Anne Cadd, Mike Claydon and Richard March; Page Roberts Mixed Fours: Barrie Goddard, Paul White, Richard Cadd and Fran Goldthorp.
