DUNHEVED bowler Lindsey Worth has won a place at the National Finals!
Lindsey, who is the ladies secretary at the Launceston-based club, only started bowling in 2022 but has found she has a real talent and is now achieving things some bowlers can only dream of.
Lindsey won the green final of the area Four Wood Singles competition on May 31 and the following day, succeeded in obtaining the Group Two Four Wood Singles crown.
The winners and runners-up of the four Cornwall groups then battled it out against each other at a very wet Bodmin green last Saturday (July 5).
Lindsey’s first game was against St Austell champion, Jeannie Humm. The game started in nip and tuck fashion but it wasn’t long until Lindsey charged ahead, securing a 21-15 victory.
Her second game was against one of the top county players, Fran Phillips, but Lindsey kept her cool even after dropping some shots and falling behind.
The wet weather made the green heavy so Lindsey took full advantage of her youth and strength, putting up long jacks to tire her opponent.
Her determination and strategic ability paid off, with an emotional Lindsey beating the odds and winning the match 21-12.
This means she will now play at the National Finals in Leamington, the dream of any competitive bowler. Her first game will be against a representative of the Isle of Wight on August 26.
Lindsey will then play the other Cornwall qualifier, Katie Sturtridge from Stenalees, for the county title at Kensey Vale Bowling Club in Launceston on Saturday, September 6.
As a result of winning the opportunity to represent Cornwall, Lindsey will receive her county badge in September.
She will also receive a commemorative national badge from a Bowls England representative, and this will be presented to her at Leamington.
