Club Finals — Friday, September 7 to Sunday, September 9

THE club competition finals were played last week although competition secretary Barbara Phoenix was faced with the problem of having to reschedule some of the finals because of the successes of Fran Goldthorp who had reached seven finals but was unable to play on Sunday as she and Teresa Tibbetts had been offered a trial at Bodmin for the Cornwall John’s Trophy team.

All in the club wished them luck and hope they will be selected when squad is announced next spring.

Goldthorp also had to play the county final of the National Four Wood Singles at Dunheved last Saturday where she came runner-up to Shirley Coad (St Austell) before returning to Bude to play the last of her club finals.

The weather was a little mixed over the weekend with some hot sunshine and some cool cloudy weather, but it stayed dry for all the matches.

There was some excellent bowling and some nailbiting finishes to make great entertainment for those watching.

President Sue Plumstead thanked all those who had helped in any way over the weekend, especially Barbara Phoenix for organising the finals and Tricia Dixon for her work at providing refreshments at lunch times as well as those who had organised the salads and desserts at the barbecue on Sunday at the end of play.

Sue especially thanked Bruce French for his sterling efforts barbecuing all the meats.
