THE price of parking in a North Cornwall town is set to increase sharply after the town council announced it was increasing the charges in its two car parks.

Wadebridge Town Council have issued a list of new parking charges to take effect from Monday, July 7 in its Jubilee car park and Egloshayle Playing Fields car park.

Announcing the changes, Wadebridge Town Council said it was the first time since 2009 that it had increased the parking charges.

In the Jubilee car park, which primarily serves the town centre, the price of parking for an hour will increase from 60p to 90p, representing a price increase of 50 per cent.

For two hours parking, the rate will increase from £1.20 to £1.80, while for three and four hours parking the rates will increase from £2 and £2.40 respectively to £2.70 and £3.60.

Some of the steepest increases, however, come in the new tariffs to be levied at Wadebridge Town Council’s Egloshayle Playing Fields car park.

The tariff charged for up to one hours parking has increased from 50p to 90p, while the longer stay charges have seen the most substantial of increases.

The price of parking for up to four hours has increased from £1.25 to £3.60, with over four hours of parking now levied as £5 a day, a £1.50 increase from the previous price of £3.50.

A spokesperson said: “Under Section 35C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Wadebridge Town Council hereby gives notice that the charges within the schedule to the Wadebridge (Off Street Parking Places) Order 2009 will be varied from Monday, July 7 as set out. All charges are subject to the maximum stay for the parking place.

“This is the first increase in these car parks since 2009.”
