THE present residents of Holsworthy gave thanks to those of the past for the sacrifices made in World War II as part of VE Day celebrations marking 80 years since the end of war in Europe.
At 9am, the day began with a proclamation and flag raising ceremony outside of St Peter and St Paul’s church, before those leading the tributes and those participating ventured towards Stanhope Park for an act of remembrance at the tree memorial.
In the evening, the remembrance became a celebration for the townsfolk, with a street party accompanied with free portions of fish or sausage and chips and musical entertainment from Joy Machine and Holsworthy Town Band.
At 9pm, a beacon was lit outside of the church where the day’s events began.
