LATE afternoon, on Friday, December 6, the annual switching on of the lights took place in Bradworthy Square.

A spokesperson for the event said: “The weather was kind to us, the clouds fortunately scurrying past and a good crowd turned out to enjoy the event. The lights around the Square and fronting the businesses were organised and put up by volunteers Alan Balsdon and his team. The parish appreciate all their hard work and thank them for it.”

The tree was beautifully presented, including decorations hand painted by the children of Bradworthy Primary Academy. The school, as always, provided a band and the children led the carol singing. Encouraged by their head teacher Mr Richard Stephenson, the youngsters were amazing. The spokesperson added: “Our thanks go to the staff and all the children for coming and making it such an enjoyable evening.”

The lights were switched on by Mr Trevor Sillifant. Mr Sillifant retired in May after serving on the parish council for 50 years. He is also a former Torridge district councillor and leader.

The tree and the Square now provide a great welcome to the village on these dark evenings as Christmas approaches.
