A POPULAR North Cornwall attraction has said it will be closed this weekend after the recent spell of flooding and severe weather.

Tintagel Castle will remain closed between December 19 and December 21, with areas closed including the exhibition, shop and cafe.

The access to the castle is also currently closed with a diversion in place for the South West Coast Path.

A spokesperson for English Heritage, which operates the site, said that the team at Tintagel Castle, with support from the charity and local contractors are doing all they can to open as soon as possible.

The spokesperson added: “Sadly, as a team, we've had quite the week so far at Tintagel Castle. Due to flooding and severe weather, Tintagel Castle will be closed this weekend (December 19 to December 21). This will include our exhibition, shop and cafe, with access currently closed.

“A diversion is in place for the South West Coast path. Despite the damage, the team at Tintagel, with support from English Heritage and local contractors, are working hard as a charity, and doing all we can to open as soon as possible for our valued members and visitors.”
