STUDENTS have been reaching new heights after a unique trip which tested their climbing abilities.
Pupils at Lifton Community Academy, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, recently rose to the challenge during a bouldering session at Milton Abbott Climbing Barn.
The children showed resilience and their impressive courage as they scaled walls without ropes or harnesses, but with thick crash mats for safety. Designed to provide an alternative healthy activity to traditional sports, the outing was a chance for pupils to test themselves and support one another.
The school has expressed that the trip is an example of its commitment to offering all its pupils’ opportunities to develop a sense of belonging, value one another, and enjoy enriching experiences. Earlier this month, Year 6 children enjoyed a day of adventure, challenges, and new experiences during a day of outdoor discovery at Launceston College.
Adam Hill, headteacher at Lifton Community Academy, has praised the trip, saying that trips such as this allow students to shine in an array of scenarios outside of the classroom environment.
He said: “Every child is unique, and offering a wide range of activities helps each of them find something they can shine in. It was brilliant to see pupils pushing themselves, cheering one another on, and growing in confidence with every climb.”
Tracey Cleverly, CEO of Learning Academy Partnership, added that the climbing experience allowed children to grow in confidence, helping them prepare and thrive for what comes next in their journey.
She said: “These kinds of experiences broaden children’s horizons and build the resilience and teamwork that stay with them long after the day is over. We want every child across our trust to thrive, not only academically, but as confident, kind young people ready for whatever comes next.”
