STUDENTS in Launceston have outdone themselves by raising thousands for a vital Cornish charity.
Year 5 pupils at St Joseph’s School in Launceston were set a mighty challenge over the half-term break. A challenge which would see them get creative and test themselves in an effort to raise money for a good cause.
The year group were set a special challenge to create and complete their own fundraising activity in support of Cornwall Air Ambulance, the school’s charity of the year.
With their challenge set, students got stuck in, going above and beyond to raise funds for the organisation. Students took all sorts of different approaches to raising funds, running, cycling, swimming - some even braving the chilling autumn sea, litter picking, staying silent for an entire day and dreaming up a plethora of ways to encourage donations for such an important cause.
Showing their dedication to the challenge, the students’ hard work paid off in a big way! With the Year 5 team having set themselves a class-wide target of £1,000, there were some big expectations. However, the group didn’t only reach the target, they absolutely smashed it, with their current total sitting at £2,600, with hopes that it will rise even further.
Commenting on the students’ success, a spokesperson from the school said: “What an incredible job they’ve done! We are so proud of every single child who took part and grateful to all the families, friends, and supporters who donated and cheered them on.”
The school has described the children’s efforts as nothing short of inspiring, praising their teamwork and community spirit.
The spokesperson for the school continued: “What an inspiring example of teamwork, creativity, and community spirit! Well done, Year 5 — you are truly amazing!”
