A NEW organisation in Bude is bringing a revolutionary approach to horsemanship to the region.

Cornwall now has its own Think Like a Pony centre, bringing a groundbreaking approach in riding and youth development to the South West.

Think Like a Pony South West offers horsemanship and riding lessons for young people, training for those with their own horses, and pony rehabilitation. As a relationship-based alternative to traditional riding schools, the lessons focus on two-way communication, compassionate leadership, and the highest standards of pony welfare.

The groups’ youth development programme supports children struggling with anxiety, low confidence, and other challenges, while our rehabilitation work helps rescued and troubled ponies recover and thrive.

The Think Like a Pony methodology, developed by founder Lynn Henry and taught by lead outreach instructor Sophie Hildreth at the new South West centre, is rooted in holistic horsemanship. It empowers young people by teaching them to connect with ponies in a way that is safe, kind, and deeply rewarding.

A spokesperson from the organisation explained: “Think Like a Pony is more than a horsemanship programme – it’s a revolution in how we connect with ponies. We are redefining equestrianism, proving that compassionate training isn’t just possible – it’s essential for the future of equestrianism. By learning to understand and connect with ponies, children develop the skills to build strong, respectful partnerships that last a lifetime.

“The Leeds centre has already transformed the lives of thousands of young people, working with schools, local councils, and families across the UK. Now, Cornwall’s children, families, and horse owners will benefit from the same proven approach.

“This launch is set to make a lasting impact on the county, addressing young people’s mental health in a unique way while offering horse owners a supportive and welfare-focused place to train.”
