RESIDENTS came out in force this week to help raise money for a vital community service.
On Saturday, June 14, the North Cornwall community came together to enjoy the Stratton Hospital Fete. The event had been organised by the nurses and other staff of the hospital and featured a variety of stalls, food and games for everyone to enjoy.

A rainy start to the day was quickly replaced by glorious sunshine as the stalls were set up for the afternoon by the hospital staff and many other volunteers including the League of Friends of Stratton Hospital.
Stalls offered a wide range of delights for many people of all ages including a raffle, tombola, cake and savouries, sausage sizzle, newspaper rapped bottles of water or wine, bric-a-brac, flowers and other plants, exercise, games for children and a children's stall sporting a plastic skeleton and a quiz on human anatomy plus a striking poster for all ages on how to protect our eyes.

A Cornish event, it was no surprise that cream teas were in high demand, and with the sun shining, many attendees were also keen to get their hands on the range of ice creams on offer.
The event also featured live music throughout the afternoon from a dynamic duo of singers, one of whom played a guitar.
However, the event wasn’t just an opportunity to enjoy the weather and get to community together, it also sought to raise money for an important cause, The League of Friends of Stratton Hospital.
With residents digging deep into their pockets, the event raised a record-breaking sum of £2,300.26 for the group.
Peter Hillenbrand, trustee of the League of Friends of Stratton Hospital, said: “Many thanks and congratulations to the hospital staff and other volunteers.”
