IT took a long time for the northern bakery giant to infiltrate the home of the pasty, but you’re pretty spoiled these days if you can’t live without a Greggs steak bake or vegan sausage roll. Six Greggs outlets have opened in Cornwall since 2018 and it looks like a seventh is coming if a new planning application is approved.

The Motor Fuel Group (MFG) has applied to Cornwall Council for planning permission to build a single-storey retail extension, jetwash bay, plant room and associated works at the Morrisons petrol filling station at Stucley Road, Bude. The proposed floor plan includes details of a Greggs store in the extension.

A supporting statement says: “MFG is the UK’s largest independent forecourt operator with over 900 sites offering a dual-fuel strategy, convenient retail and ‘food to go’. MFG are looking to roll-out an extensive supply of EV charging facilities at existing Morrisons sites across the UK to diversify their existing offer, with the aspiration to make it as easy to charge your vehicle as re-fuelling with petrol or diesel. The aspiration of MFG is to provide access to convenient and affordable charging, regardless of where the driver lives.

“The proposals do not raise any concerns regarding adverse impact on amenity/ conflict in terms of surrounding land uses. The proposed area will be well-lit and does not raise any concerns from anti-social behaviour/natural surveillance perspective.”

The proposals include a new single storey extension to the existing single storey shop building on site. The remainder of the site will remain as it currently is, although the existing car wash will be replaced with a jetwash. The development would use the existing on-site drainage system.
