THE Tetcott Variety Club held its final Tetcott Show on November 25 and 26 with plenty of laughter and cheering from members of the audience.
The show was the end of an era for many in the village and surrounding area who had taken part in shows from previous years.
The Tetcott Variety Club was first formed in 1953 and this went on for a number of years. The shows included a variety of musical numbers, comedy sketches and musical solos from both adults and children. This year the final production, previous to this held in 2005, was once again staged in the Arscott Hall, Tetcott, where 23 men and women sang and performed some of the most momentous acts and songs from as far back as the early 90s.
With hours of preparation and hard work put in from producer Myrtle Rooke, pianist since it began in 1953, another show-stopping production was created.
For the two nights Myrtle was accompanied by John Luxton on guitar and John Lawrence controlling the stage lights.
Compere for the two nights was Brian Jennings — who was also making some quick changes and performing alongside the rest of the cast. He entertained the audience with some memories and brief history about the club throughout the evening.
With quick changes of various costumes, members of the audience were given an array of performances, from nuns to nautical, trips around the world and men dressed as women!
Some of the songs recounted included: 'To Know Him, to Love Him'; 'I Know Him so Well'; 'Over the Rainbow'; a comical performance from Kerry Lyons and Mike Greenaway of 'Sarah and Henry's love song' and a grand finale of 'The Rhythm of Life'.
Gareth Mitchell was 'Changing on the Beach,' a comedy sketch performed by his dad, Stephen Mitchell, in past years.
Following the final number, thanks were extended to everyone who helped to make the final two performances such a success including back stage helpers, car parking stewards and other front of house crew.
The two performances has so far raised a total of £1,500 which will be donated to the Devon Air Ambulance appeal and will go towards hall funds.
