BRINGING some colour to Holsworthy, the first of the flower troughs have been installed in the town square as part of the ‘First Impressions Count’ scheme.
The recently implemented ‘First Impressions Count’ scheme is being rolled out in Holsworthy over the next three years with the hope of making the town look more appealing.
Visitors and residents of Holsworthy, as a result of the scheme, will get to pass by an array of beautiful and colourful flowers as they enter the town.
Torridge District Council’s Holsworthy member Ian Parker has championed the scheme, he said: “Many thanks to those who have helped progress this project with their sponsorship to fund the costing and to the volunteers for their time and muscle power!
“Without this support nothing would have happened.”
The ‘First Impressions Count’ scheme has looked to businesses to pledge or donate a minimum amount of £100 per year, over a three-year period, which will go towards the upkeep of flowerbeds installed and surrounding grass areas.
Sponsorship, totaling around £600 so far, for the flowerbeds have been received from Holsworthy businesses; Mole Valley Farmers, Mole Insurance Services, Jag Signs, Harpers Home Mix, Mystery Shoppers, Tamar Trading Building Supplies, Kivells Livestock Market, CowShed café and takeaway from the Holsworthy livestock market, Holsworthy Health Care Ltd, Coodes Solicitors, Dee and Ian Headon and Cavanna Homes — with more sponsorship hopefully still to come.
Cllr Parker added: “Thanks also to Holsworthy Town Council for their support and enthusiasm, especially to the new town council ‘Handyman’ George Orr-Wilcox, for his anticipated nurturing of the flowerbeds, to Alan, Ann and Richard Elias of Rising Sun Nurseries for the flowers and also to Ian Rolinson, James Parker, Richard Reader, Karl Heaven, Rodney Parrish and Claire from the Factory Shop in Holsworthy for the water butt.
“This is a three year rolling project to make Holsworthy bright, colourful and vibrant all year round.”
