A NUMBER of new affordable and accessible properties are set to take to the market in Bude following their completion.

Legacy Properties has completed the first handover of affordable homes to Westward Housing at its Upton Green development in Bude, marking a key milestone for both organisations.

The first handovers include two bungalows, both purpose-built wheelchair-accessible homes. They feature adjustable multi-use kitchens, fully accessible wet rooms, ramped access, and fixtures installed at wheelchair-friendly heights, ensuring full independence for their new residents.

These homes form part of 13 affordable units being delivered to Westward Housing at Upton Green, for local people in desperate need of affordable housing. They comprise a variety of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, bungalows and houses, for affordable rent and shared ownership. It is the fourth collaboration between Legacy and Westward Housing, following successful partnerships at Halwyn Meadows in Crantock, Highfields in Cubert and The Grange in Goonhavern.

Each is designed with contemporary open-plan layouts, generous living spaces, and modern family life in mind, and every property is built with sustainability at its core, featuring air-source heat pumps, solar panels, and thermally efficient materials.

This is the first time Cornish Housebuilder Legacy Properties has completed homes built specifically for full wheelchair use. It has said that it represents another key step in the company’s mission to deliver high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable homes across the region.

Commenting on the milestone, Nick Long, managing director at Legacy Properties, has said that these homes ‘meet real community need’ and described it as a ‘proud moment’ for those involved.

He said: “This is a proud moment for everyone at Legacy. The handover of the first affordable homes at Upton Green, including Legacy’s first purpose-built wheelchair-accessible properties, reflects both our technical capability and our commitment to inclusive design.

“Working in partnership with Westward Housing, we’ve delivered homes that meet real community need, from bespoke accessible bungalows to sustainable family housing. Upton Green has already captured huge interest for its design, quality and location, and these affordable homes are an integral part of that story.”

Stephen Lodge, CEO for Westward Housing has added that these properties were designed for ‘local families’.

He added: “We are delighted to take handover of the first affordable homes at Upton Green, including two fully wheelchair-accessible bungalows designed for local families. These homes will make a tangible difference to people’s lives in Bude, providing safe, modern, and inclusive spaces where individuals and families can thrive.”

The milestone comes amid exceptional demand for homes at Upton Green, where more than half of all open-market properties were reserved within weeks of launch earlier this summer. The coastal collection of 25 energy-efficient homes, just 500 metres from Bude’s North Cornwall coastline, features both open-market and affordable housing built with sustainability at its core – including air-source heat pumps, solar panels, and thermally efficient materials.

The two organisations have expressed that further affordable home handovers are scheduled to take place later this year, with the remaining homes expected to be completed in December 2025 and then a few months later in February 2026.
