NATIONAL Highways has revealed its plans to tackle ongoing safety issues between Kennards House and Five Lanes on the A30.
Last autumn, the organisation, which is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the country’s roads, revealed its proposals for a series of safety improvements along the stretch of the A30.
It came after it received major attention following a series of life-changing and fatal collisions on the road.
The consultation received more than 400 responses, and now the organisation says it has has reviewed feedback and adapted plans.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The community supported safety improvements at the Plusha Junction and other areas between Kennards House and Five Lanes.
“Some people were concerned about the Plusha Junction, but the proposed closure of Two Bridges caused people the most concern.
“This was due to the potential impact on commuters, particularly in Lewannick.”
However, despite reviewing plans, very little has changed from its original approach.
A spokesperson said: “We won't close Two Bridges junction, but will closely monitor it. The Plusha junction has a poorer safety performance than Two Bridges, so we'll deliver the plans we've developed. We've already started some of this work. We're currently helping Cornwall Council develop its local safety measures. We'll fund local network improvements to minimise the impact of any traffic on the community.”
However, some residents have expressed their frustration, particularly following changes to the Blackhill Quarry junction, as they believe this will have an impact on surrounding villages.
Adrian Parsons, Cornwall councillor for Altarnun and Stoke Climsland said: “Clearly this will have implications for local traffic movements, so would encourage all who live locally to take a good look and give feed back as appropriate. It looks as if the greatest disruption will be caused for those at Polyphant with the right hand turn in off the A30 at Black Hill Quarry proposed to be closed, except for blue light services.”
