LOCAL students got the chance to channel their inner Ray Mears recently, thanks to an exciting outdoor discovery day.

Pupils at Lifton Community Academy, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, strengthened their bonds and built valuable skills during a day of outdoor discovery this term at Launceston College.

Year 6 children enjoyed a day of adventure, challenges, and new experiences, where they had the chance to try their hand at a variety of activities, from climbing and archery to learning how to light campfires with a flint and toasting marshmallows.

The array of action-packed activities gave pupils the chance to work together, build resilience, and support each other.

Adam Hill, headteacher at Lifton Community Academy said: "Our Year 6 pupils had a fantastic time on their adventure day. It was a joy to see them working together, helping each other out and experiencing the wonderful possibilities of outdoor life. I’d like to thank Launceston College for being such great hosts."

Tracey Cleverly, CEO of Learning Academy Partnership added: "Experiences like this give children skills that will serve them well not just today, but through secondary school and the rest of their lives, helping them flourish both as pupils and people.”

The school has expressed that it is committed to offering all its pupils opportunities to develop a sense of belonging, value one another, and enjoy enriching experiences.

The adventure day is just one of the ways the school is helping to build the group's confidence as they start to prepare for the transition in to secondary school next year. Earlier this term, the school’s Year 6 pupils took part in a three-day residential at Pixie’s Holt Outdoor Learning Centre, where they enjoyed a range of tasks designed to encourage teamwork.
